Vanishing Cream is a really popular product that was more known for its characteristic feature – vanishing right after application.

It is ideal for those with oily skin, especially since this doesn’t leave a greasy or oily residue behind. But the moisturizing properties of vanishing cream is really good and the key reason why those with oily, or even normal skin prefer. You can also use this as your base, or under your foundation. I usually apply this and follow-up with a dusting or face powder.

It is very simple and easy to prepare as well, and one of the best DIYs in my arsenal!

Ingredients

Glycerin – 1 ¼ Tbsp.
Stearic Acid Powder – 3 ½ Tbsp.
Distilled Water – 1 Cup
Potassium Carbonate – ¼ Tsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – 10 Drops

Instructions

In a sauce pan, add the stearic acid powder and place it in a sauce pain with an inch of water.

Heat in simmer till the powder becomes a liquified.

In another bowl, add distilled water, glycerin and potassium carbonate and heat in simmer.

When it reaches boiling temperature, remove from heat.

Now, stir the glycerin mixture while slowly introducing liquefied stearic acid.

Whisk the mixture and add the essential oil while whisking.

Keep whisking till the mixture becomes creamy.

Let the mixture cool down and transfer to sterilized jar.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Neroli Essential Oil, Rose Essential Oil, Geranium Essetnial Oil, Rosemary Essential Oil, Sweet Marjoram Essential Oil, Chamomile Essential Oil, Vetiver Essential Oil, Tea Tree Oil, etc. Choose the one that you love the most, or suits your skin, etc.

Lavender – Works well for all skin types, particularly good when you want to soothe and heal your skin – acne, dryness, etc.
Neroli Essential Oil – Good if you want to regenerate skin, fight marks and scars, etc.
Rose, Vetiver, Carrot Seed Essential Oil – Ideal for ageing skin
Chamomile or Lavender – Works well if you have skin issues like Eczema, allergies, etc.
Tea Tree Essential Oil – Idea for those with acne or skin problems

Alternatively, you can mix your own blend or use one of the many blends out there for different purposes, to suit your needs and requirements.

How to Use It?

Right after cleansing, apply a toner and use this cream. Applying it before you apply foundation works best. This way, it also moisturizes your skin, so it doesn’t leave patchy streaks of makeup that’s common with dryness.

If you are using powder, you can dust your face powder after applying the vanishing cream.

Just take a small dollop and massage it into your skin gently. You don’t need a lot, just enough to cover the surface of the skin. Don’t get fooled because this gets absorbed real quickly!

Shelf Life

I would recommend preparing smaller batch and using it for a month or two.
