With DIY trend picking up, everyone wants to make their own makeup and ditch the chemical-laden ones. We have been looking at a lot of different makeup and beauty recipes recently. We promised to add make-up bases so you can have a stash when you don’t have time to go through the exhaustive steps. So, here’s the first one as promised.

This is a mineral make-up base and very simple to make. All you need are two ingredients and you’re all set. Ready everyone?

Ingredients

Zinc Oxide – 1 Tbsp.
Sericite – 1 Tbsp.

Instructions

In a sterilized mixing bowl, add Zinc Oxide and Sericite and blend using a spatula.

It takes a minute or two, sometimes more.

Once combined, transfer to a sterilized jar and use as needed.

How to Use This?

You can use this as your base for several mineral makeup recipes we will be adding here on our blog.

Who Can Use This?

This makeup base is ideal for those with light – medium skin tone.

Why Use This Base?

It is quick and easy, especially if you are just starting to prepare your own recipes. Besides, it is way cheaper than store-bought stuff.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can also use Titanium Di Oxide instead of Zinc Oxide.

As for the quantity, go with what works for you best. I have added 1 Tbsp. since this is a base and can be used in numerous recipes, though you can reduce or increase based on your preference or requirement.

How to Buy Mineral Makeup Ingredients?

Make sure to buy high quality, FDA approved ingredients. Some makeup raw materials aren’t approved for use on lips or eyes. If you plan to use the makeup base for lip or eye makeup recipes, you will need to ensure they’re safe to use on your eyes or lips.

Non-nano mineral makeup raw materials are ideal. This way, the particles are large enough for your skin and won’t enter your lungs or penetrate your skin, when used.

As for Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide make sure they’re non-nano and uncoated.

As long as you get the raw materials from the right source or the right kind, it is all-good. Just read through and make sure they’re cosmetic grade, though some are classified as pharmaceutical grade, especially Zinc Oxide.

Why These Ingredients?

Sericite

Sericite is one of the main ingredients of mineral makeup. It is finely grained mica that comes in off-white color and is translucent. It is a naturally available mineral ingredient and usually comes in cosmetic grade for use in a range of cosmetics including foundation powders, eye shadows, eyeliners, etc.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc Oxide is an off-white powder that’s used to add opacity and coverage. It also offers UV protection, a reason it is used in sunscreens. It is also added to alter (lighten) the final shade of a product.

Easy isn’t it? Now, you have a base that you can use, or just dust it as your foundation powder. We will be adding more variations for different skin tone and skin types, so you can choose what works for you. Till then, you can try Gaya Cosmetics for your mineral makeup requirements.
