We all use different cosmetic products and realized the need for natural products to spruce up your looks. It isn’t really difficult as this DIY Shimmer Cream is going to prove!

We all use concealers and or foundation to hide blemishes and cover up a few marks, but they’re laden with chemicals. Here’s a fairly easy and natural recipe you can try. A bonus is that this cream offers moisture and coverage, without a lot of chemicals being splurged into the mix!

Ingredients

Lotion – 4 Tsp.
Cocoa Powder – ½ Tsp.
Mica – ½ Tsp.

Directions

You can use a store-bought natural lotion, or prepare a lotion at home.If you are preparing the lotion, you can check back for the recipe we will be adding to our blog soon.

In a mixing bowl, add the lotion. Now, add the cocoa powder and mica. Mix well.

You can add or reduce the cocoa powder and make sure the shade is to your preference and matches your skin tone.

If you think it looks darker, just try it on your skin and you will get an idea on the coverage and how close it is to your skin tone.

Once the adequate shade is reached, transfer the cream to an airtight container and use as needed.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use Sandalwood Powder if you don’t prefer cocoa powder, or if you want more benefits that sandalwood powder. You will more or less need the same quantity as cocoa powder if you use red sandalwood powder. For a lighter hue, you can use the normal sandalwood powder.

Since we don’t use a preservative, it would last a month, if you use a homemade conditioner. So prepare small batches, every month.

You can use this cream for getting a polished and tinted look, though it also works as a mild concealer. It is an effective moisturizer, since we use lotion. If you want more coverage, you can add Zinc Oxide Powder, or add in your foundation powder.

You can skip mica if you don’t want shimmer effect, or if you are wary of adding mica.

If you aren’t adding sandalwood powder, cocoa powder should give the lotion a nice chocolate aroma, though you can add complimenting essential oils for added fragrance.

A few drops of Vitamin E oil can also improve the shelf life of the cream.

How to Use This Face Cream?

Wash your face with a mild cleanser and use this as a face cream or light foundation. It gives a nice shine and offers mild coverage.

Why The Ingredients?

Mica

If you don’t want to add mica, you can skip it. Mica is a naturally occurring mineral and used in several cosmetics for the shimmer it offers. It is regulated by the FDA and  does not pose a threat to human health in minuscule quantities.

Cocoa Powder

Rich in antioxidants, it can give an instant lift to your tired face. It curbs free radicals that can harm your skin or trigger ageing skin signs. It is also moisturizing and soothes your skin. It is widely used in cosmetics and skin care products for the benefits it can offer your skin.

Sandalwood Powder

Sandalwood Powder

Sandalwood has several benefits to offer and has astringent, antiseptic, disinfectant and anti-inflammatory properties. It aids with healing and treating skin eruptions, acne, rashes and inhibits bacterial growth. Being an astringent it curbs oil secretion and tones your skin. It also makes your skin radiant and reduces the appearance of scars and blemishes. It keeps your skin soft, supple and nourished.
