We all use foundation to get a blemish-free and even look when heading out for work or otherwise. Do you want to chuck that store-bought foundation stick that costs a fortune and loaded with chemicals for a chemical-free affordable one?
A foundation is used for different purposes. Mostly, working women and women who move in social circles and have an active social life, use different cosmetics to look at their best and hide perfections. It gives skin an even tone, hides mild imperfections and gives a clear non-greasy look. It can also be used as a makeup base.
However, commercially available foundations are often powder or liquid form. Foundation sticks are quite rare and in the event they’re available, they’re pricey. Want a natural recipe that is quite easy to prepare in your kitchen?
Whatever your reasons for using foundation are, picking the right foundation that doesn’t cause breakouts and works well for your skin is important. Most foundations are laden with chemicals. Here’s a DIY Foundation Stick recipe you can try.
Coconut Oil / Jojoba Oil – 1 Tsp
Cocoa Butter / Shea Butter – ½ Tsp.
Bentonite Clay – 1 Tsp.
Turmeric – a pinch
Cocoa Powder – 1 – 1.5 Tsp.
Beeswax – .5 Tsp
In a mixing bowl, mix clay, turmeric and cocoa butter to combine them.
In a double boiler, heat together coconut oil, cocoa butter and beeswax until they melt and combine.
Remove from heat and add the dry ingredients and mix to ensure there are no lumps.
Transfer to lip balm dispensers or lip balm tubes and let it sit in the refrigerator for 5 – 8 hours. You can also leave it to cool down in room temperature.
Once it fully set, you can use as needed.
Tips to Tweak the Recipe
Depending on your skin tone, you can increase, skip or reduce the cocoa powder. You can also use Sandalwood Powder instead of Cocoa Powder if you have acne-prone skin.
Bentonite Clay is ideal if you have acne-prone skin, as it helps prevent acne and pimples. You can also use White Kaolin Clay instead of Bentonite clay if you have very dry or sensitive skin.
Use Shea Butter if you are prone to acne or if you want a lighter butter.
I have used Coconut Oil or Jojoba Oil since they suit most skin types. You can swap it for a carrier oil of your choice.
You can add a few drops of Vitamin E oil and Essential Oil for added benefits and fragrance.
You can add Titanium Di Oxide or Zinc Oxide for coverage and double it up as a concealer / sunscreen.
You can increase the quantity of Cocoa Powder if you want to use this as a bronzer and increase or decrease turmeric depending on your skin tone. Turmeric gives a nice glow when added – you can skip it if you don’t want to use it.
This is a creamy and moisturizing Foundation Stick that will give you a radiant look. This recipe makes 2 – 3 lip balm tubes and lasts for a few months without the need for refrigeration.
How to Use It?
Just use the stick as roll-on and gently pat with your fingers, to spread it evenly.
