There are times when you want to let go and have some fun, especially when kids are around. Here’s one such recipe for those who want to let loose or prepare something nice for kids.

It is tough to get kids to do things that are good for them, isn’t it? This colorful body butter can kick them into action and protect their skin during winter. I wanted a nourishing, hydrating and soothing body butter to prevent dryness or cracking skin.

Also, when elders needs some motivation just like kids, the colors would help them along and they can protect their skin from wrinkles, fine lines and scars. I wanted to keep the recipe simple and suitable for most. Let’s take a look at the ingredients first.

Ingredients

Shea Butter – 1 Cup
Olive Oil – ¼ – ½ Cup
Vitamin E Oil – 1 Tbsp.
Oatmeal – 1 Tbsp.
Lavender Essential Oil – 25 Drops

Instructions

Melt the Shea Butter along with Olive Oil in your double boiler.

When melted, remove from heat and let it cool down.

Add Vitamin E Oil, Lavender Essential Oil and Oatmeal to it.

Whip for a few minutes till the mixture is fluffy.

Refrigerate the mixture for a few minutes and then, whip again. Your butter should be nice and fluffy.

Transfer to a sterilized jar and set aside.

The recipe is technically done here and you can stop with this. However, we’re talking about a colorful body butter aren’t we? So, here’s what you need to do for that!

For this part, add in the color pigments – preferably oil-soluble ones if you want an even distribution of color. Add it to the whipped butter and whip further to spread the color pigment – you can go with one or more colors. If you go with multiple colors, layer the butter and create a rainbow theme instead ;). I have used soap color pigments, as food color can stain the skin.

Tips to Tweak the Recipe

You can use any butter including Cocoa Butter, Mango Butter, Kokum Butter, etc. I personally prefer Shea Butter as it suits most skin types, doesn’t trigger acne outbreaks and does a world of good for the skin without making it greasy.

I have used Olive Oil here, though my personal favorite is Sweet Almond Oil for most body butters. It is suitable for most skin types, light and doesn’t trigger acne outbreaks. It soothes the skin and also keeps ageing skin signs at bay and is rich in Antioxidants and Vitamin E. However, you can use any carrier oil(s) of your choice including Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Apricot Oil, Argan Oil, etc.

Oatmeal is optional and ideal for those with oily or combination skin. It also keeps the butter less greasy, but not needed especially if you have dry skin. However, Oatmeal is great if you want to soothe your skin too. You can also use Rice Powder, Tapioca Starch, Arrowroot Powder or even Corn Starch instead.

How to Use the Body Butter?

Just massage into your skin as you would apply your lotion or body butter. Make sure the dye isn’t the staining kind 😉
